Description
The Danish 20 Kroner for King Christian X was minted from 1913 till 1917. There is a portrait of Christian X on the obverse and the reverse is the Danish coat of arms with a small heart to show that the coin was made by the Copenhagen Mint. The mintage of these coins was relatively small at only 3.7 million and they are scarcer than many other European bullion coins of that age.
Christain X reigned from 1912 until his death in 1947 and was also King of Iceland between 1918 and 1944. He was cousin to King George V and to Tsar Nicholas II of Russia. During the beginning of the German occupation of Denmark, Christian became a powerful symbol of resistance by riding every day through the streets of Copenhagen, unaccompanied by guards. He became one of the most popular Danish monarchs.
