Description

A special issue of the Sovereign was struck for 2023 to commemorate the coronation of King Charles III. The obverse design is the first official crowned portrait of King Charles III designed by Martin Jennings, the British sculptor. The reverse design returns to the popular St George and Dragon design by Benedetto Pistrucci.

King Charles III ascended the throne on 8th September 2022 on the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II. His coronation took place in Westminster Abbey on 6th May 2023.
