Description
Sovereigns are one of the most popular coins for UK investors, as it is exempt from Capital Gains Tax and not subject to VAT. King Edward VII ascended the throne on the death of his mother, Queen Victoria, in 1901. Victoria had reigned for 63 years and by the time that Edward came to the throne he was nearly sixty years old. Although Edward had never been allowed much influence in the reign of his mother, he had travelled widely throughout Britain and overseas and had become loved by the people. He married Princess Alexandra of Denmark in 1862 and they became a couple who epitomised fashion and glamour. Sadly the reign of Edward VII was short and he died from a series of heart attacks in 1910. He was succeeded by his second son, George, who became King George V.
