Description
This design of the Mexican 2.5 peso was made in honour of Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, a priest and revolutionary leader, who was a prime figure in the fight for Mexican independence from Spain. Issued between 1918 and 1948, the majority of these coins were made dated 1945 as an official re-strike.
The obverse shows the Mexican coat of arms , an eagle holding a snake in its mouth, standing above a cactus. The reverse shows a portrait of the revolutionary leader, Miguel Hidalgo Y Costilla.
