Description
The Russian 10 Roubles of Nicholas II are dated between 1895 and 1911. The obverse shows the portrait of Tsar Nicholas II, the last Russian Tsar. The reverse shows the Imperial double-headed eagle.
Nicholas II ascended the Russian throne in 1894 on the death of his father, Alexander III. He was unprepared for the task, but took his role as an absolute monarch seriously. Unfortunately this made him unwilling and unable to adapt to the role of a ruler in a rapidly modernising society. Forced to abbdicate in March 1917, following the beginning of the Russian Revolution, Nicholas II and his family were taken to the Ural mountains where a few months later, in February 1918, they were brutally executed.
